Things change when you begin to really see yourself. Courtney Harris has begun to see herself in new ways since joining the Low Country Minority Business Accelerator (MBA) six months ago, and it’s fueling her growth.
“The program acts like a mirror for you, and it really exposes your weaknesses,” Courtney says. “Depending on what kind of person you are, you might not be okay with that. I’m okay with that because I want to do the very best I can.”
What she sees now is a need to scale her 11-month-old physical therapy and wellness business faster than she’d thought. It’s time to start hiring. But she’s also come to recognize the fear that’s kept her from doing so until now.
“I knew I needed to hire back in the fall, but I was petrified. You’re now responsible for somebody's income, livelihood, and enjoyment in the workforce. But the program helped with building my confidence, and just yesterday I just posted that I’m hiring an admin.”
With more than 70 applicants on the first day alone, she’s sure her first hire is somewhere in the mix. A person of faith, Courtney says she’s been hearing God tell her one word over the past year: bigger. With coaching and support from her MBA cohort, bigger is coming a lot faster.
